I received this email from my team member, Cheryl Hill, this morning. She is so excited about candle season!!

I have to share with you what is happening THIS candle season!

Like so many of us, I was holding my breath as to what this candle
season would be like with the economy getting the bad rap! The confidence in our product and company has not changed, but I was unsure of how the consumer would view our products during a time like we are seeing now.

Knowing the situation the economy is in didn't stop me from planting the seeds, asking people to host parties, or sharing the business. I continued to do what I have always done and just Simply Ask and talk with people about our business. THERE and try these action steps:

I recently had a party in Helena, MT and it is right now close to $700 in retail sales (still more to come). We all know that we make approx. 1/2 of that amount and to me that is a HUGE WAGE to bring
home for 2 hours of work, if you want to call it that! :0) I had more fun seeing friends and family than feeling like I was WORKING.

I also just closed a Catalog Party today and the total was over $400. This again is a SIMPLE way to make great cash. All I had to do was ASK, give the hostess catalogs, my sample bag and then pick up and deliver the order to her.

This was a win-win for both of us and I can tell you I will start promoting more Catalog Parties. We are all busy and this seems to be a solution for both the hostess, who wants free product, and me as the distributor to make great money working from home!

I also have several other parties, booths and 2 fundraisers going on in
the next few months and I am confident that these will be JUST, if not MORE, profitable than the ones above!

People are REALLY starting to contact me about the business, too. They are seeing the potential and simple aspects along with the money that can be made with our company. They are getting tired
of meeting a $400 per month quotas and see our $39.95 per month auto ship much more doable!

We have what people want!! It is just up to us to spread the word and plant the seeds!

Summer Fling '08 was a BLAST!

So I'm home from Summer Fling and I had the time of my life!

I left on Sat. July 26th at 6am and headed for Wilkes-Barre, PA. I got into town about 5pm and Charlie Umphred, the V.P. of Marketing and one of the co-owners, picked me up at the airport. He and his girlfriend were letting me stay at their home that night as a favor and a way to save money. He also had a big night planned for all the distributors that flew in early for the convention.

Charlie and Cyndi hosted a barbeque and the guest list included top leaders in the company and the CEO Bobby Scocozzo and his family.

We listened to live music and relaxed on his deck that overlooks the lake next to his house. I saw my very first firefly and thought that was pretty cool! ha!

The next day was a very fun and relaxing day where I met up with team member Buffy Stiles and my sponsor, Jackie Ulmer and some other friends for drinks at the Margarita Bar at the Woodlands Resort.

Monday night was the kick-off Western BBQ dinner and the Montana Babes came out in all their western glory!! We took the first and second place prizes to the tune of $300!!

Tuesday was the first official day of the conference and I was a speaker. Charlie told me because some other speakers had gone way over time that I had to be fast and funny. I am happy to report that I accomplished that but also made a complete fool of myself. I'll share that story another time but for those of you that know what I'm talking about, here is the link to watch the YouTube video of my husband in his underwear that I referred to in my speech.

Tuesday night was the Island themed dinner and we dressed up once again. We didn't win a prize but my dear friend Tanya Hommes did with this crazy costume!

On Tuesday, I participated in a skit gameshow called "Do You Have a Millionaire Mindset" and I was the Vanna of the show and my name was Vanna Montana!! Pix to come!

The last night was the big dinner dance and we all dressed up and partied one last time before heading home the next day.

My flight got canceled and had to be rescheduled for the next day so I got to spend one more night with Charlie and Cyndi. Thanks so much to them for their open hospitality and all the great dinners on the deck!

Plans are being made for the next Fling to possibly be in Las Vegas. Details to come. Make plans now to be there and share in the fun times and success training!

How many times did you wish when the alarm clock went off and woke you from a dead sleep, that you didn't have to go into work??? Probably each time. I know I did.

I was a middle school teacher for 12 years and worked while having babies and left them each morning to go take care of other parent's kids. I wanted to be home with MY kids!!

Become Attractive to your Customers

It’s that time again!! The perfect time to retail your products!

Why? Spring is here and it’s time to air out the house.

Burning candles is a perfect way to bring the fresh smell of flowers, clean laundry, spring rain, fruit, and the tropics right into your home.

Mother’s Day is also right around the corner. It’s also wedding, fundraising, house selling, and garage sale season. So make sure you have plenty of candles and products in stock so you can make your best money this Spring!

Obviously, the candles won’t get up on their own little legs and walk to your customers so you need to get out and get walking and talking.
Do you want people to be attracted to you or run like crazy away from you?

Duh!!!!

I have 6 points that I would like to share with you… 6 ways for you to become more attractive to your candle buyers and prospective business partners:

1. Know the difference between hunting and fishing. In network marketing and sales, we are to be fishers of men and not hunters of men.

The difference is what happens to the animal. In hunting, you stalk an animal, then run after it. Then you take it down with one method or another. If you are successful in hunting, what happens to the animal? It dies. You are left with a dead animal.

Now with fishing, you put out the most favorable bait for the type of fish you are trying to catch. You wait patiently and the more lines you put out, the better your chances are for catching something. As you get more skilled with fishing, it takes less time and less bait to catch more fish! What happens to the animal after you catch it? It’s alive so you can release it!

So your job isn’t to stalk and pester a prospect or customer. They might sign up just to get you off their back. But what kind of a business partner do they make? A DEAD one! You might make a sale but they are going to tell their friends to stay away from you and are they ever going to buy from you again? No!

You want to put the right kind of bait in the water to attract a prospect and customer and then gently and carefully reel them in and then after you land the big fish, you equip them with the tools they need to survive on their own AND RELEASE THEM!!! So much more humane!

So what are good types of bait?
· Candles and products! In our biz, the perfect bait for most people!
· Time Freedom
· Financial freedom
· Stay at home parenting
· Home-based business
· Recognition – Did you know that people will do more for recognition that they will for money?
· Inclusion and belonging
· Fun and new friends

2. Be confident! "He could sell ice to an eskimo!" That’s what you say about someone who is very confident about his or her product. You have every reason to be 100% confident in our awesome candles and products. They are priced right, smell great and are very unique! So you can open up a jar with confidence. I have no problems telling my customers that the jars are $20! We don’t have a sales tax so that is what I retail the jars for! I am so confident of the quality and people can feel that.

When I take my little basket in with me into businesses and other places, I have so much pride in my candles and myself that people feel comfortable buying from me. How many times have you walked into buy something or gone to a home party where the consultant is nervous and apologizes the whole time either about the prices or not knowing enough, etc. You just want to leave!!!

It’s like listening to someone sing karaoke who is just terrible, it makes you chuckle nervously but all you want to do is leave because you feel nervous and uneasy for that person singing. So do your customers and prospects a favor and be confident! Put them at ease!

3. Dress and groom a notch above! One of the reasons we go into business for ourselves is for the freedom to not have to conform to a dress code or not get dressed at all until noon if we don’t want to. But if you want to sell candles and attract prospects, you need to groom yourself. My rule of thumb for dressing and grooming is whatever the dress code for a particular situation, I dress one notch above the rest.

So if I’m going to run to Costco and the majority of stay at home moms are going to be in sweats and no make-up, then I will wear nice jeans, flattering blouse and my boots. I always fix my hair and put make-up on. You see I am always prepared to Lifestyle my business so I’m always dressed as if I’m working. I met one of my leaders in Costco parking lot!!

4. Relax and let the candles and the customers do the talking! I love to tell this story because I feel obligated to share it with new distributors because it revolutionized how I sell candles now. I think if you understand this one concept, it will change how you do business, too!

My son and I drove 600 miles to set up a booth at a three-day county fair in a very small community in NE Montana where I grew up. The first day was not very successful and I only sold about $100 worth of candles and I was so disappointed.

As we were packing up for the day, my son, who was 8 years old at the time, took me aside and said, "Mom, can I give you some advice about your candle selling?" My son is wise beyond his years so I was open to listen to him.

"Mom, you’re doing it all wrong." Okayyyyyy

"You tell them that they are made out of veggie wax, burn cleaner than other candles, burn really long and how much they cost…."

I was confused because I was thinking that I was doing great with that information so what could he possibly tell me I’m doing wrong??

"Mom."

"You gotta get ’em in love with the scent first. Any scent… once they have a favorite, you are sure to sell." Wow! I was floored.

Ok, so the next day, I used his technique. I took a Sex on the Beach candle and Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper candle. As the ol’ farmers would walk by I would use Bill Mitchell’s favorite line… "Hey, you ever tried Sex on the Beach?" The old geezer’s would get all red in the face but every one of them would walk over. Then I would say, "Relax, I don’t care about your personal life. It’s a candle!! I sold out of Sex on the Tractor yesterday so you have to try this one!!!" They would just laugh out loud and smell the candle. Most of them loved it and bought one for their wives.

If the people walking by didn’t like that one then I would put Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper under their noses. I would keep opening jars until I found one that they liked.

So was my son right about my sales?? Did I sell more when I got them to fall in love with a scent?? The first day I did a measly $100 but the next day was over $600 and the next day after that was over $700!! Yes! He was right! I’m so glad that I listened!

Also, spend more time listening to your prospects and customers. They will think you are the most clever and interesting person if you listen to them talk about how clever and interesting they are!

Mostly you want to find out what BAIT will work best on them. Are they talking about being candle freaks and that they burn candles in every room? Or are they talking about how they wish they could spend more time with their kids? You can hear BAIT clues in your conversations.

5. Always have a Positive attitude!! Who usually has the most people around them at a party? Who is usually called the Life of the Party…. the whiner, complainer or angry person?? Nope!! The happy person that makes everyone around them smile and feel great! I try to be the Life of the Party everywhere I go.

When I go into my husband’s dealership to sell candles, I always try to smile and say, Hi Mark or How’s it going, Bill? I go back to the offices of the ladies who run the business office and take in a new scent and with a big smile say, "I thought of you this week when our new Candle of the Month Club scent came in and so I wanted you to be the first one to smell it and tell me what you think! Here’s a votive for your simmer pot!"

They just love to see me come in because they know I’m going to brighten their day. I always say I’m great and that business is booming… which with this business is never a lie!! I don’t ever share any doom or gloom or complain. They have plenty of that in their lives already. I’m the candle lady that brings happiness and good scents that make them feel terrific.

6. Go the extra mile with your customers. Always make your customers feel like VIP’s. Treat them as if they are royalty and that you are at their service. My very best Bella Bar customer works with my husband and he used to play hockey for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 70’s. He will buy 10 bars at a time and he also just bought a case of jar candles from me, too.

When I get a call from a customer for a candle that I have in stock, I make sure that I get the candle to them that day if possible. If a candle drawing entry comes in and they want to know more, I call them right away. I let my customers, prospects and team members know that they are very important to me and that I will do whatever I can to take care of them.

So those are the 6 major ways to become more attractive to your prospects and customers.

MLM on MySpace

So you want to use social networking communities like MYSPACE to build your MLM team?? Then you have come to right place.

Over a year ago I decided to use non-cost methods to advertise and build my business. I had tried all the over used and expensive ways like banner ads and purchased leads. I even did a lot of off line advertising and local networking groups.

All of it was successful to a certain extent but I was spending way more than I was making and pretty close to a financial crash. Hear the whole story of the good, bad and the ugly in this ONLINE RECORDING.

One day my husband heard about myspace and created his own profile. He was finding some old classmates and church buddies and told me to create my own profile to do the same thing. Then the light bulb went on in his head and he encouraged me to use it to find new team partners.

I have a HUGE issue with "finding people"... I don't do it. People have to find me.

But, I was intrigued and created a profile just for fun. As I started to find old friends and make new friends, I did realize what a tremendous tool this could be to let the Law of Attraction do its thing and make myself attractive to prospective business builders.

Day by day I learned how to create a profile that people found exciting and attractive without all the hype and empty promises that many myspace marketers put out there. I had something different and refreshing.

Within just days, I had new "friends" asking about my business and products. Then they were signing up and joining my business. It worked! Most of my new team members find me at MySpace now.

Next, I started getting my team members involved on myspace and it turned into a perfect place for team training and recognition.

What I LOVE About Making Money Online

There are so many things that I love about working from home but more specifically... what I love about making money online... internet marketing.

Three years ago, I decided that my passion was being on the internet so I wanted to turn that passion into a money making business.

I did that by building my own website, buying a great domain name http://www.momsmakingmoneyfromhome.com/ and then finding a product that MOST people know about and like... candles!

I also found a mentor which was really important. I did exactly what she told me to do and the success was quite dramatic and quick! Now I want to pass on what I've learned to YOU!

So what do I love about making money online??

1. Freedom to be a stay-at-home mom.

2. Flexibility to work around the hectic schedule of a busy household... I can work online at any time of day.

3. Financial stability for our family without having to leave the house to work a job.

4. Fabulous friendships that I have made with people online that I would NEVER had met any other way... like my friendship with best-selling author, Jane Porter.

5. Challenging work that stimulates my mind and keeps me engaged in life. Never a boring minute!!

6. Deep and lasting friendships with team members who are like-minded.

7. Really fun events where I am able to travel, meet amazing people and learn all while laughing until I cry with the best friends of my life.

8. The confidence in myself that I never had before starting my own internet business.

9. The ability to help other people but especially other moms get a life and live happy, fulfilled lives building their own businesses and teams.

What a Year... a glance back!

This is the Andersen family last year about this time.

I like to reflect on the past year on the last day of the year and journal my feelings and thoughts. I usually write this out in my journal but since 2007 was the year of the BLOG, I felt it was appropriate to do that here.

2007 was a busy, exciting, frustrating, exhilarating and growing year.

We started off our year with a big road trip to CA and Las Vegas. I was one of the speakers for the Western Regional Candle Conference in Vegas and so I decided that we would take 2 weeks and travel down to SoCal to visit friends and relax and then hit the conference on the way back.

It was probably the best vacation our little family has ever had. We spent time with one of my dearest and oldest friends, Stacy, in L.A. She and I met when we were 6 years old back in Scobey, MT.

We also connected with our favorite Filipino family Cres and Claudine San Jose in Santa Clarita. They lived next door to us in our first apt. in Canyon Country when we moved to L.A. in 2002. They were angels sent from God to help us with our transition. In fact they even helped us unload our moving truck. I thank God for them often.

We also spent a whole day visiting friends at Galpin Motors. Collin worked there for almost three years and we have many friends and fond memories there. Bert Boeckmann continues to influence our lives by what he taught us and the kindness he showed us while we were there.

We visited Solvang and boogie boarded at Avila Beach... my ultimate life destination... where I plan to live before I die.

Then it was off to Las Vegas for the conference and I brought my whole family up when I spoke.

In March, I held my 2nd Annual Montana Spring Candle Meeting and it was a huge success. My dear friend and team member, Gay Passano, hosted the event at her family ranch. The day was filled with great food, fun and lots of great training.

The next big event was in Cleveland, OH where I once again was a featured speaker. I spoke about Dreaming Big and both parts to that speech can be seen on my YouTube page www.youtube.com/kariandersen

While I was there, I toured the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Pete Canavan, company owner - Charlie Umphred and his girlfriend, Cyndi and John MacFadden. John knows everything about music and I learned a lot that day.

From May-September, I spent a lot of time hiking with my friend, Lori Dawkins. When I think back on the year, hiking with her held my dearest memories. She was a slave driver and pushed me beyond what I ever thought I could physically do. We talked and talked and I grew spiritually, emotionally and mentally just visiting with such a wise and intellectual woman. Thank you, Lori, for being such a gift to me during a really tough time.

July was filled with lots of FUN IN THE SUN! We spent lots of time floating down the Madison River and boating on Canyon Ferry Lake with friends.

Collin even got a chance to do some dirt biking and he loved it even when he wiped out and scraped up half of his body.

I think the month that has the most consecutive days of fun was in August at our Annual National Gourmet Candle Convention in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

I traveled with a group from my Montana candle team and we were gone almost a week. The time spent with those amazing ladies will forever be one of the best times ever. I was a featured speaker at this event also and the title of my speech was Become Another Person: Extreme Dream Makeover. You can view that speech on YouTube also.

RED NECK Montana BABES!!

September was special because my hubby and I celebrated our 13th Anniversary. I adore him and I'm so thankful for a man who can put up with me and also make me feel so cherished and loved.

One special night in November is my favorite one of all. My dear friend and best selling author, Jane Porter, came to Montana, went to Happy Hour at my grandma's house, had drinks and dinner with my best friends and stayed at my house.

We met online last March on cafemom.com. You can read my blog about Jane's visit to Montana HERE.

We decided that this year was going to be a ONE PRESENT CHRISTMAS. We decided to get a Wii as a family present and that was it. As you know, Wii supplies are limited and very hard to come by. I called over to GameStop in Bozeman and they said they had a shipment coming in on Black Friday.

So I stood outside the store at 6:30am in 3 below zero weather and waited for the store to open. I was 7th in line and I scored a Wii!! It was worth the frostbite... ok... that didn't happen but I was very cold!

We have had so much fun as a family with our Wii. I love to play golf and bowl. It actually gets everyone up on their feet and active. I wake up each morning sore from WRS... Wii Related Soreness!!

This year was so amazing and I learned so much. I turned 40 and had lots of feelings about that. I decided this year that I was going to do what I want from now on. I might have gone a little overboard with that but still feel more empowered than ever.

I probably spent more money than I should have this year but I had a blast and will spend some of this year making up for it. LOL! But I found an awesome book to help me do that and feel even more excited about getting our finances in order for an awesome future! The book is by Dave Ramsey called Total Money Makeover. http://www.daveramsey.com/ Collin and I read it together and put together a plan to get debt-free in a year! It's so thrilling to be in this together.

I really do appreciate all of you... my family, my old friends who I have found after many years, those who have joined my candle team and those who are my brand new friends. You are dear to me and I love getting to know you. I realize that making friends is one of my greatest thrills in life. I love people and I love to help them find a better way of life.

Get out of the Rat Race!

My name is Collin Andersen and I would like to help you get out of the Rat Race.

I have done and been a lot of things in my life. It wasn't until I was almost 35 years old that I discovered my real passion in life. I've never loved anything more in life than being a dad!

That part of the story has absolutely nothing to do with helping you get out of the Rat Race!

I have always been a hard worker and have always had an entrepreneurial spirit.

For as long as I can remember, I was the kid who mowed the neighbor's lawns and delivered newspapers. I got a job as soon as I was able to work. I worked fast food and restaurants for a few years, hotels and motels for a few more. I was a youth pastor for a while, and eventually gravitated towards a career in sales. I sold gym memberships, bulk coffee, and then, as luck would have it, cars and trucks...

I say, "as luck would have it" because I really enjoyed selling cars and because I began my career in car sales at Galpin Motors, the Number 1 Ford dealership in the world, working for an amazing man by the name of Bert Boeckmann. He was (and continues to be) an incredible inspiration to me... brilliant, generous, humble, and extremely wealthy. He is a brilliant leader and man that could truly be considered a "world-changer." Believe me, he knows a thing or two about how to get out of the Rat Race.

I can see now, looking back, that what I really enjoyed about the jobs I had was contact with people. I enjoy helping people and I enjoyed the fact that I didn't just work with one particular group of people.

Car sales allowed me to sell a truck to a plumber, an SUV to a beekeeper, a car to a school teacher, and a minivan to a mom. I met all kinds of people who did all kinds of things and I enjoyed these interactions immensely. But I was stuck working every day. I still didn't know how to get out of the Rat Race.

All of the jobs I held were good ones and I did well at them. I managed to have a savings account, buy a home, invest in retirement programs 403Bs and 401Ks, etc. I kept working and the money kept coming. Oddly enough, the more life went on the more expensive it seemed to get. I soooo wanted and needed a way to get out of the Rat Race!

Now I had one wife, two homes, two cars, three kids, and a credit card or two. Two homes with utilities and taxes, two cars with insurance and upkeep, three kids who needed food and clothing and money for activities, a couple credit cards with interest, and a wife who enjoyed helping me spread the wealth around. I was getting desperate to find a way to get out of the Rat Race!

When would the treadmill ever stop? One thing I knew for sure was - I could never stop!

Of course, I kept on 'keeping on' because it was the right thing to do. I am a man who takes his responsibility to provide for his family very seriously. I had no other choice but to do so.

But I was growing increasingly more tired. It began to become frustrating and the idea of 'getting ahead' seemed to be further and further out of reach. It was time to get out of the Rat Race!

The dreams I'd been nurturing; travel, free time, a leisurely retirement, etc. seemed to be things that were constantly out of reach for me.

I OFTEN wondered what it was about me that kept me from having the life I KNEW was possible. I knew it was possible because I knew that there were people who had it. We've all seen the lifestyles of the rich and famous and wondered, "Why them and why not me?"

I am a hard worker, no one would deny that. But you can paddle a canoe till you drop dead and you have about as much chance of getting across the ocean as a mouse does winning the Kentucky Derby.

It wasn't about working hard. It was about having the right vehicle to get me to my destination. I needed something new to help me succeed in a way that nothing had allowed me to up till that point.

I wish I could say that I am such a genius that I immediately recognized what was missing. I wish I could tell you that I discovered and developed some top secret new methods for wealth. I wish that I could tell you anything other than the fact that my wife came across this business two years ago and that it took me over a year to realize what she had a hold of.

What I thought was a cute little hobby business has grown into a thriving enterprise with hundreds of participants all over the US and Canada. It wasn't until the month before I could "retire" that I began to fully realize exactly what it was that we had been building.

This is how I was to get out of the Race Race!

We had a business that was out-producing my sales career, was growing every month, and allowed me to work with people in a greater way than I'd ever imagined; offering the gift of this business, the training and encouragement to succeed, and the hope for a better and brighter future.

Now these former 'strangers' are some of the dearest friends that we have ever known. What's more, they are grateful to us for helping them in such a significant way.

Now it comes down to YOU!

What do you dream about? And what is it that makes you think that it's OK to let those dreams just pass you by. They won't just happen to you, you know! Dreams must be pursued. Your dream is as unique as you are. You are dreaming it and you are dreaming it for a reason. You want it to happen. I say, "You NEED it to happen."

You need it to happen so that you can be fully realized, so that you can not feel crazy, so that you can get out of the Rat Race, so that you can rise up and be one of the few with the courage to make the life they dream of a reality. Your friends need to see someone do it. Your kids need for you to do it. Your life deserves it. You deserve it.

Is what YOU are doing, right now with your life, WORTHY of YOU?! Are YOU ready to get out of the Rat Race?

Almost two years ago now, I needed lipstick. I was attending a new church in Belgrade, MT and was meeting some amazing people. One of the new friends that I met was a consultant for a major cosmetic company. We started talking about business and I shared that I was a gourmet candles distributor and she was very interested because she loves candles. I mentioned that my favorite lipstick was from her company. She was NOT interested in my business and the same for me with hers but we agreed to trade products.

So I gave her a Sex on the Beach candle and she gave me a tube of my favorite lipstick. I remember my husband questioning my judgement because he didn't want me to give my product away. But I needed lipstick so why not make sure that one more person tries a gourmet natural-wax candle and get what I need in return. She was thrilled and so was I.

A few weeks later, I got a voicemail and an email from a girl here in Montana saying that she smelled a gourmet candle over at her friend's house and that she was very impressed with the candle. It was half burned, she said, without any black stuff. She said she even asked her friend if she cleaned the jar after she burned it which of course she didn't. She also said it smelled so good she wanted to lick it!!

So we wrote back and forth and chatted on the phone about a dozen times and she finally signed up with the Fast Start Pack. That girl is Cheryl Hill. I traded a candle for lipstick and got Cheryl Hill in the deal... my TOP leader!! Now, that was a big return on my investment!!

Cheryl was a school teacher, like myself, who wanted to be home with her babies. She just wanted some extra cash to help out with bills but didn't want to recruit or build a team. The next day while Cheryl was sharing her excitement with another couple, they got so excited that they signed up the next day! So within 24 hours, Cheryl had her first team partners!

Cheryl Hill is an expert at candle parties, fundraisers, internet marketing, recruiting and training. She spoke twice at the last Fling and is scheduled to be a speaker at the Las Vegas event in January 2008.

How about another SEED story...

Three years ago this May, I was at a Children's Expo with my children to see Mr. McFeely from "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" and let them play on the inflatable jumpy things. Needless to say, I was not very excited to be there. But I went armed with two votives and my business cards. I intended to look for other moms or vendors who might be interested in joining my team. So after a couple hours of passing out my cards and one votive, I still had one Cotton Candy votive left.

I spotted another mom who had a stroller and a bunch of kids. She was very pretty and looked nice. Seemed safe enough! So I went up to her and said, "You look like you could use a candle." She laughed and I found out later that she wondered what exactly that looked like! She took that candle and read the bottom and said, "I want to make money from home." I told her to take the candle home and check out my website. That was it.

A couple weeks later, she called me and said that little Cotton Candy votive that she set next to her computer had been calling to her. She loved the scent. So we chatted for a long time and found out that we had so much in common. We even grew up not far from each other in Eastern Montana and we were both singers. She was still a little hesitant but she talked it over with her husband and he said that he was going to sign up if she didn't! Thanks, Matt!

Deanna Haley also shared her story at a previous Fling, is a dynamo internet marketer and is an expert at selling her candles in small retail shops all over the area. She will be at the Las Vegas event and is bringing team partners with her to share the excitement.

One more awesome SEED story!

My husband and I attended a Marriage Seminar about a year and half ago. It was a fun class and we met some amazing couples. The leaders of the seminar asked if I could put together some votives to give to each couple for the last class. Chili Vanilli votives were what I had in stock so I wrapped each one in tulle with a ribbon and attached my card.

One of the ladies went crazy over the Chili Vanilli scent and asked me a million questions about the candles and the business. She and her husband had been in network marketing and knew the power of MLM.

Gay Passano was the wonderful lady who was Chili Vanilli-ed and is now one of my TOP RETAILERS in the area. She attended the Summer Fling and the Las Vegas event last year. She takes the candles with her everywhere and shares her excitement. Her husband, Chris, who owns his own painting business has recently caught the bug and purchased a CANDLE TOOL BAG (like the one in December's newsletter) to take to his job sites.

Moms Make Money in Montana

Moms in Montana are discovering freedom with their own candle business!

Montana is a beautiful place to live and many families are looking to the communities of Montana to raise their families.

But moms in Montana are finding it hard to be home with their children because the cost of living has risen quite a bit over the last few years.
So what's a mom to do?

Start your own homebased business! That's what I did. I wanted to be home with my kids but still help out with the finances. I found a great candle that is clean burning and doesn't burn with all that black stuff!

I also realized that there are many moms from Montana who want to be home with their kids and create an income to allow them to pursue their dreams and get out of the rat race. So I introduced them to the candles and helped them start their own business. The word is starting to spread like wild fire.

It's RUTTING season!!

My name is Kari Andersen and I am from Montana!! I was born in Bozeman, MT and then moved to the other side of the state where I grew up in a very small town in NE Montana. Each side of the state has very different topography. The west side is part of the Rocky Mountains and that's where I live now and the east side is part of the Great Plains. But both sides share something in common… hunting.

Well, we are right in the middle of hunting season. It's not uncommon at all to see 5 or 6 carcasses hanging up in many of the garages in my neighborhood.

Now there is a trick to be able to land the trophy buck. I would like to read a quote that I found on the Game and Fish Magazine website by Dan Kibler:

"Your best chance to kill a trophy buck - or any buck with a set of antlers big enough to brag on down at the fillin' station - is in those three or four weeks a year when his hormones hijack his thought process. When he removes that armor of carefulness that usually protects him and trots through the woods naked, as it were…"

Yes, my friends… this is what we call Rutting Season!! It's the time when male deer/elk, etc. throw caution to the wind and go looking for some lovin'!!

Now you may be wondering why in the world I'm talking about rutting season. Well, there isn't too much difference between candle season and rutting season. Let me tell you why.

1. Same time of year. We are right in the middle of both!

2. Candle buyers and bucks in the rut have a lot of in common. They are both much more vulnerable because of their situations. Instincts and panic kick in for both… for the bucks it's to mate with as many does as possible and for the candle buyers… the holidays are coming!!!!!

3. Last but not least… both candle buyers and bucks are driven by their noses… let me read you another quote from that same article… This is about the bucks… "All he's going by when it comes to finding does is his nose; his nose is driving him. Does are all he has on his mind, and he smells that and he's coming. If there are no 'barriers' in the way, very little will stop him if he gets a good nose full."

Sound like any candle buyers you know!!!

So during the "rut" it's easy pickins when it comes to landing the prize buck and the same with selling candles during candle season. Pretty easy pickins'!! We love that!! It doesn't take a lot of skill to take off lids and put candles under noses and make phenomenal sales.

But there are other times of the year that are a little more tricky to make sales and so that is why you want to attract as many sales as possible and that requires you to become more attract-ive.

For those of you that have ever listened to any of my training calls or other speeches at regional conferences, you know that I am a big believer of the Law of Attraction, being a good sales person and doing this business as a Lifestyle which just means that you are doing your business while you are out doing your business like errands etc.

So today I'm going to share with you some things I've learned on how to become the most Attract-ive Lifestyler you can be… how to attract candle sales and also new business partners.

I have 6 points that I would like to share with you today… 6 ways for you to become more attractive to your candle buyers and prospective business partners.

1. Know the difference between hunting and fishing. Ok, here we go again with Montana animal catching references! In network marketing and sales, we are to be fishers of men and not hunters of men.

So your job isn't to stalk and pester a prospect or customer. They might sign up just to get you off their back. But what kind of a business partner do they make? A DEAD one! You might make a sale but they are going to tell their friends to stay away from you and are they ever going to buy from you again? No!

So what are good types of bait?

· Candles and products! In our biz, the perfect bait for most people!

· Time Freedom

· Financial freedom

· Stay at home parenting

· Home-based business

· Recognition – Did you know that people will do more for recognition that they will for money?

· Inclusion and belonging

· Fun and new friends

2. Be confident! "He could sell ice to an eskimo!" That's what you say about someone who is very confident about his or her product. You have every reason to be 100% confident in our awesome candles and products. They are priced right, smell great and are very unique! So you can open up a jar with confidence. I have no problems telling my customers that the jars are $20! We don't have a sales tax so that is what I retail the jars for! I am so confident of the quality and people can feel that.

It's like listening to someone sing karaoke who is just terrible, it makes you chuckle nervously but all you want to do is leave because you feel nervous and uneasy for that person singing. So do your customers and prospects a favor and be confident! Put them at ease!

3. Dress and groom a notch above! One of the reasons we go into business for ourselves is for the freedom to not have to conform to a dress code or not get dressed at all until noon if we don't want to. But if you want to sell candles and attract prospects, you need to groom yourself. My rule of thumb for dressing and grooming is whatever the dress code for a particular situation, I dress one notch above the rest.

So if I'm going to run to Costco and the majority of stay at home moms are going to be in sweats and no make-up, then I will wear nice jeans, flattering blouse and my boots. I always fix my hair and put make-up on. You see I am always prepared to Lifestyle my business so I'm always dressed as if I'm working. I met one of my leaders in Costco parking lot!!

4. Relax and let the candles and the customers do the talking!

Also, spend more time listening to your prospects and customers. They will think you are the most clever and interesting person if you listen to them talk about how clever and interesting they are! Mostly you want to find out what BAIT will work best on them. Are they talking about being candle freaks and that they burn candles in every room? Or are they talking about how they wish they could spend more time with their kids? You can hear BAIT clues in your conversations.

When I go into my husband's dealership to sell candles, I always try to smile and say, Hi Mark or How's it going, Bill? I go back to the offices of the ladies who run the business office and take in a new scent and with a big smile say, "I thought of you this week when our new Candle of the Month Club scent came in and so I wanted you to be the first one to smell it and tell me what you think! "Here's a votive for your simmer pot!"

They just love to see me come in because they know I'm going to brighten their day. I always say I'm great and that business is booming… which with this business is never a lie!! I don't ever share any doom or gloom or complain. They have plenty of that in their lives already. I'm the candle lady that brings happiness and good scents that make them feel terrific.

6. Go the extra mile with your customers. Always make your customers feel like VIP's. Treat them as if they are royalty and that you are at their service. My very best soy soap customer used to work with my husband and he used to play hockey for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 70's. He will buy 10 bars at a time and he also just bought a case of jar candles from me, too. A couple months ago, I put a free body wash tube in his soap order and drew a big smiley face on the receipt and thanked him for being my 1 customer and made note of the free gift on his receipt.

He wasn't there at the time so I left it on his desk. I found out from my husband later that he went around the dealership showing everyone the receipt so they could see that I gave him a $13 value body wash for free and that I appreciated his business. He even taped the receipt up in his cubicle. You just never know how your positive gestures will make a person feel!

So those are the 6 major ways to become more attractive to your prospects and customers. First, take some time to learn about the Law of Attraction and then take the steps to become an Attract-ive Lifestyler!

My Day with Jane Porter

For anyone who knows me, one of my passions is great fiction. I love to read. My very first job was working in a Christian bookstore called The Parable. It was a "heavenly" job.... a dream job being surrounded by books.

When I find a good book with a great author, my world shifts slightly as I seek out anything he/she has written.

Well, my world shifted about 6 months ago and has never been the same since.

Because my mission as a work-at-home mom is to help other moms find a way to stay home with their babies and make a fun and financially-free lifestyle for themselves, I meet people at "mom" forums all over the internet.

I had posted an article on cafemom about my struggle with depression and my search to get a life... the article was called "MOM! Get a Life."

Shortly after that, I received a really nice email and this is what it said:

Hi Kari,

I used to be a jr high school teacher but am now a work at home mom, too, but you and I do very different things. :)

However, I love what you posted on one of the mom's pages, about "Get A Life". You were so warm and elegant and succinct. It was fantastic. I also do a lot of speaking, and am in fact about to jump on a plane to Reno where I'm speaking at the Nevada Women's Expo, and I just wanted you to know that you're doing good in the world. Keep sharing that message. Continue inspiring women. I started crashing around 38/39, too, which led to my bestselling novel, "Flirting with Forty", which Sony is now developing into a movie for Lifetime. Somehow I found away to turn heartbreak into something positive but it still hurt. Nothing like putting metal to fire to make it strong.

Anyway, just wanted to say good job and well done. I applaud you.

Well, at first I just didn't believe this Jane Porter chick and thought it was just some kind of joke... why would a best-selling author contact me. They are like movie stars to me... don't mess with me on this, I was thinking.

So I did some research and sure enough, she was legit!! So I immediately went online and put her book, Flirting with Forty, on hold at the library and picked it up asap.

I was floored!!! I found myself relating to the characters and LOVING the story. I was hooked!! Remember, good fiction is my passion and here was a new author that wrote really, really well.

So I wrote her back and shared my excitement with her. She was so sweet and wrote me back. She also said that she wanted to send me one of her other books, The Frog Prince.

How exciting to get an autographed copy of one of her books!!! It was also a great read and the friendship continued to grow as we emailed back and forth about the stories.

I then realized that I wanted to reciprocate and sent her a care package of candles which included the best selling scent, Sex on the Beach. She was in the middle of writing her latest Harlequin Presents novel and it was the perfect candle to inspire her! LOL!!

She loved the candles and was wonderful about promoting me on her site and when Odd Mom Out came out in September, I really promoted her on the forums that I participate in. It was a really cool cyber-friendship.

Then one day she said she wanted to come to Montana to meet me and my very cool friends who have all become her friends on myspace. So we set it up and it all seemed just so normal. She even asked if she could stay at my house. No biggie. She's one of my dearest friends now... on the internet.

Well, the day arrived, November 8th, and we were all ready with a clean house and plans in place. Then the nerves settled in and I realized that I was going to meet best selling author Jane Porter and she was going to sleep in my house!!!!! ahhhhhh!!!

To really get the best re-telling of our meeting at the airport, you have to read Jane's blog. She is a writer and tells the story to the tee!!! It happened exactly that way.

After our meeting at the airport, it was off for her to sign books at Bozeman's Barnes & Noble and Borders. They recognized her at Borders and that was really cool. In B&N, they laughed at us because we were being so silly when the reality of our meeting finally set in.

We went home to get Collin, my husband, and my kids. My son and daughter were waiting out in the street running towards us. They were so excited to finally meet the lady that they had to clean the house so perfectly for! She didn't disappoint. She was so kind and sweet to them.

The house was spotless! My husband had cleaned up so the place just looked great... garage and all! Thank you, Honey! You blessed me more than you know!

Then it was off to Happy Hour at my grandma's condo. For as long as I can remember, my grandparents have hosted what they call Happy Hour in their home from 4:30 to 5:30 each day. Whoever can make it will show up for an hour of visiting over a glass of wine, beer or root beer for the kids. Doritos are always served, too!

The condo was packed on this day with my dad, uncles, friends and Lori Dawkins even showed up to join us for a glass of wine. Jane was a wonderful guest and just rolled with it. My grandma was so thrilled to have an author in her home because she also is passionate about fiction. What a treat for a very special 86 year old woman!!

The doorbell rang and we were greeted by a very handsome man in a suit. He said he was our driver for the evening!! ha! It was former NFL player for the NY Jets, Dale Dawkins, who is also Lori Dawkins husband. LOL!!! He had their Cadillac Escalade all shined up and running in the drive-way to be our escort.

He dropped us off at Plonk where we met friends that came all the way from Billings to have dinner with Jane Porter. That was so fun and Plonk Cosmos were the drink of choice there. What a fun and trendy place that is!

So then it was off to dinner just a half a block away at Looie's Down Under in Downtown Bozeman. Jane brought goodie bags for all the diners and signed books for those that brought their copies with them.

It was almost 4 hours of eating, laughing and listening to Jane tell us the background scoops and inspirations for her novels. We were riveted by her wisdom and vulnerability. She is as genuine in person as the characters she creates in her books.

After dinner, our driver took us home and then he and Lori came inside and chatted with Collin, Jane and I until 1am. It was really neat to get the male perspective on the topics that Jane, Lori and I brought up. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

The next morning, I had to get Jane to the airport by 7am. She was up and ready in 15 minutes... she even looks perfect in the morning! Not a high maintenance girl at all!

I cried as I drove her to the airport. I would miss my new, not-just-a-cyber friend but a real in-the-flesh friend so much.

I reminded her as we were driving that she now was family and that anyone she just met here in Montana would do anything for her... that's just the way we are here in Montana.

She was extra special, though, and we all knew that. She is Jane Porter, best selling author, yes, but more than that... she is now a Montana Babe!!

Recruiting Kirby in my pj's

Recruiting Kirby Vacuum Sales People in my PJ's!!

Today my daughter answered the door after she heard the doorbell ring and yelled for me to come to the door. Dang!! I hate to answer the door esp. when I'm still in my pj's at 4pm in the afternoon!

Two college age girls were at the door and they wanted to test their Kirby vacuum on my floor. I have a Kirby already and wasn't in the mood for looking at all the dirt on the little white pad that they suck up out of my carpet. ha! But they were super nice so I chatted with them for a bit.

I apologized for still being in my pj's and one of the girls said that she saw my van in the driveway that says on the back window that I work from home and she wished that she could work at home in her pj's. BINGO!!

The other girl asked to use my bathroom because she was pregnant. She also said that she wished she could work from home so that she could be home with her baby after it's born. BINGO!!

So I gave them each a votive and a brochure and told them to look me up online. They both love candles, of course!!

Anyone who can go door to door selling vacuums is a GREAT potential partner in my mind!!!

I was so glad that I was still in my pj's at 4pm!!

boohoo.... it's the first day of school!

ok, I'm not crying about the first day of school at all!!!!

The best day of the year has to be the first day of school!!

I love the quiet and calm that comes with being in the house all by myself.

I love the fact that my kids are being challenged by people who have chosen a life of poverty in order to serve and inspire young minds. (I was a teacher for 12 years. I was one of those people.)

I love that my kids now need to go to bed at 8:30 instead of 10pm.

I love that I will have lists of chores for them and homework when they get home afterschool.

But... I have to admit that I enjoyed my kids so much this summer and that I really like who they are becoming.

My son, Arie, used to be the "difficult child" but now he is turning out to be a stellar and brilliant young man.

My daughter, Chana, has talents that I didn't know she possessed and I burst with pride like I had something to do with it... not at all. She wants to be a runway model and cake decorator... well, you can guess that neither is my gift... my Back To School mom guest appearance at the local mall doesn't quite qualify me as a Super Model.

My daughter, Emma, is a perfect student and loves school with all her heart. When we went to the BTS night at her school, her teacher said that other teachers were congratulating her for getting Emma in her class. What a trip... my teachers mourned when they found out I was in their classes... I was very outgoing... ahem... talkative... obnoxious!! Who me?

So, here is to the first day of school and loving and missing my babies... only a little. What great people they turned out to be!

I have finally caught up on emails, sleep, laundry and errands and now have a minute to reflect on an amazing week in PA at our company convention that we call Summer Fling '07.

I took a group of ladies with me to the Summer Fling from Montana and we were affectionately referred to as the Montana Babes.

Every time I go to a company convention I have a hard time being able to express how amazing it was.

I never imagined that my life would be as fun as it is.

Summer in Montana

Life in Montana is harsh for the most part... 9 months of winter, 40 below zero at times, dark winters... harsh.

But summer in Montana is wonderful!! I think it makes it worth it all.

We have some great plans for this summer... go to the lake with some friends on the Fourth of July, float down the Madison River a bunch of times, hike the many trails that lead up into the mountains, meet family in Yellowstone Park for a small reunion, and one of my favorites...head up to Scobey for the Daniels Country Fair.

I love the DC Fair because the silliest things seem like such a BIG deal. It's so cool to watch kids in blue corduroy FFA jackets or 4H kids show off their barnyard animals. It's fun to sit on a bench and chat with a guy that used to teach English and Driver's Ed and laugh about the fact that I was so annoying in school. It's fun to see old classmates with their kids and crack up about the fact that this fair seemed bigger when we were kids.

Each night at the fair they have Grandstand Headliners... a nobody country music singer, the rodeo of local ropers and riders and the crowd favorite, Demolition Derby!! woohoo!! I love it when it rains and the dirt turns to mud and it gets sprayed into the crowd! We go crazy for that!!

My kids and I love going there! The whole town is like your backyard. I can let the kids go play for the whole day by themselves and they will go swimming, bike riding, hang out at the park and then at 6pm, the Volunteer Fire Department siren goes off and all kids must return home. It's just an unspoken (sometimes spoken) rule!

Yep!! Summer in Montana is glorious! We put up with a lot of adversity to enjoy the few months out of the year of sun and warm weather. You never have to fight crowds to enjoy this beauty and leisure... no lines like you have to endure to get into Space Mountain or The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland!

But the best part of this glorious place is the people. The people of Montana, whether they are natives or transplants, are what make this rugged place live-able. We have made some of the best friends of our entire lives being here. It takes time to build good relationships and when you find the people that you just click with, you hold onto those relationships and nurture the friendships with everything you've got!

I can see it in my kids' faces that they are happy here. We have lived a lot of places and each place has given us a piece of what makes us who we are... and Montana seems to fit. Feels like home... like fun!

I Can Fly Daddy!

Every time we would ask our daughter what she wanted for her birthday she would tell us "Butterfly Wings."

The Big Party arrived with here friends who came over for an afternoon of summer fun and cupcakes! We stopped playing in the water long enough to eat and open the presents. As she began to open the present and saw that it was her butterfly wings, the tears of joy and excitement began. It was great to see her so happy that she gotten her butterfly wings, but we didn't know deep down why she really wanted those wings...

A bit afterwards, when the kids went back to playing in the water. Our daughter put on her butterfly wings, stood up on her picnic table (with dad standing by) and jumped.... This time the tears were filled with sadness and disappointment. Ted asked her if she was alright and if she was hurt, Mazie said, "No, Daddy I just wanted to fly with my Butterfly Wings and I didn't....."

It broke our hearts that our little girl was so looking forward to actually flying with those butterfly wings. At this moment we realized this was the reason she wanted butterfly wings.

That is not where to story ends. Ted seeing just how upset she was that she did not take off like a butterfly picked her up in his arms with her on her belly & flew her around the yard. Mazie said, "Look, Daddy I can fly!"

This is when the tears of happiness and being proud came to my eyes as I saw my daughter laughing and enjoying being a butterfly, even though it was pretend, and my husband making my daughters dream come true.

It is times like these that I think about when we as adults become disappointed when things don't go our way & our dream isn't just as we imagined. We end up getting upset and give up. Instead all we had to do was look around and there would be someone we loved standing right there waiting to help us reach that dream!

How is your dirt?

In the business world and network marketing especially, we talk a lot about seed planting and we spend so much time helping people learn how to plant seeds.

Well, seed planting is the easy part!!

I spent hours in my garden today working with the dirt... there is so much work to be done before any seed can hit the soil...

I asked hubby to roto-till the garden for my Mother's Day present but it didn't work out so I'm hand plowing the soil today and it's so freakin' hard I can't believe it!

But if you don't take great care to make sure the soil is weed, rocks and clump free then all the seed planting in the world is not going to give you a very good garden with lots of healthy veggies.

So how does this translate to business?? to life??

Well, I have come to the conclusion that way before you spend time, money and effort sharing your products, business opportunity, etc. (the seeds) you should take time to make sure the soil of your soul is ready.
Spend time each day turning over the dirt inside of yourself to see if there are rocks of unforgiveness, weeds of jealousy or even clumps of insecurity stuck there.

You don't want all those seeds you are planting to fall on bad dirt, do you??

So, my new thing is HIKING. I decided when I spoke in Cleveland a few weeks ago that I was not happy about my weight or health and made an intention to exercise more and lose some weight...

I never intended to start hiking up the sides of mountains though but two of my dearest friends... Lori Dawkins and Lisa Pierson, were going to start "walking" once a week so I agreed to join them for the friendship and to move towards my goal.

Well, the first "walk" was hiking up to the "M" which is a giant letter on the side of a mountain that represents our college. I had done that hike 2 years ago and vowed that I would never do it again... but they said they would take it slow, so I went. It was tough but I made it and they were awesome and let me stop when I needed to. I've done that hike 2 other times since then and it gets a little easier each time.

Yesterday we went on a different hike and they said it was hard at first but then it got easier... they lied!!! It was 2 hours straight up the side of a mountain, for crying out loud! When we got to what I thought was the top, I was so happy but my feet were bloody and I could barely breath but I did.

Lori pointed up a trail and said that we had to go up there because the view was spectacular and I just had to see it. I was so annoyed with her and told her no way! I'm exhausted and was happy with the view from where I was standing. She asked me if I was ok with settling with a mediocre view and to trust her to show me the best.

So, I trusted her because she had already been there and made the last climb and she was right... it was absolutely amazing and I was so glad that I trusted her and gave it my all to enjoy the very best.

What about you???? Are you tired???? Have you worked really hard in your business and feel like you are ready to quit??? Will you settle for mediocre??

OR.... do you trust me when I tell you that the view is awesome because I'm starting to see it for myself! Life as a work-at-home- mom is so incredible. While most people are at work trading hours for dollars, I'm able to go hiking for 3 hours with my dearest friends and see nature at its finest while my business continues to grow!

I had to work REALLY hard to get where I am but now that I'm approaching the top, I can see how beautiful it is from here but I trusted my sponsor because she saw it first!

Keep going! Don't give up! Trust me! The view is spectacular!

Greetings from Montana!

I'm Lori Dawkins, a member of Kari Andersen's incredible team, and I am contagious. I have caught "Fundraising Fever" and I'm hoping to spread it to as many people as I possibly can!

I joined the Candle of the Month Club a year ago not only because I loved the candles, but mostly because I loved the thrill of getting my package every month and wondering what the new scent would be.

The idea of joining a MLM company was the farthest thing from my mind because, like many of you, previous experience had taught me that it was very difficult, uncomfortable, and only profitable for a very elite few. And though I loved the MLM concept and potential, I vowed that it just wasn't for me.

That is, until I got to know my dear friend, Kari Andersen, and thought, "Wow, I'm actually going to personally know someone who has made it in MLM." Kari's success intrigued and motivated me to intensely watch, listen and research this candle company for months behind the scenes.

After about ten months on the sidelines it finally hit me... my oldest daughter is on a traveling basketball team that needs to raise money for tournament fees and I have the perfect avenue! So I approached her coach, booked my first fundraiser, and was officially in the game. The team sold just under 200 candles and plans to continue this fundraiser two or three times a year!

This first fundraiser was completed less than a month ago and already I've had someone call and order six more candles, plus another lady wants to join the COTM club and have candle parties!! Since then I've lined up a few more fundraisers and I'm beginning to build my team.

All of a sudden, my mind is flooded with ideas and real possibilities that will make true success in this business a reality. But what excites me the most is that I'm now able to truly visualize and believe that not only will I have an extremely close friend with a successful MLM business, but I will also personally know someone else who has reached the pinnacle in MLM…ME!!

My Grandma has PMA!

My Grandma Lou demonstrates PMA (Positve Mental Attitude) the very best I've ever seen!

Shortly after I started my candle biz, I filled out the partnership agreement for my sponsor and I wrote a detailed account of my perfect day.

In it I mentioned how I wanted to live in MT in a big house with a big yard and be in a safe neighborhood for my kids. I was born in Bozeman and my dad and grandparents still lived there.

After I wrote it all out, there seemed to be an urgency about getting there and we moved within a three months time. My husband felt the same urgency.

We moved in with my dad for a few months and then bought the house that was described in my perfect day. During that time, I got to spend lots of time almost every day with my dad and my grandparents.

My grandpa was 86 years old and very healthy. He was out golfing and we got to spend so many fun times with him. My grandma was absolutely tickled to have us close to her again after 35 years of being apart.

Well, 4 months after we moved here, my grandpa had a stroke and died a week later.

Because I was here, I was able to spend the whole week with him in the hospital singing to him and holding his hand as he prepared to leave this world. He was unable to speak but his eyes spoke volumes.

At the service, which was at our new house, we all took turns saying our good-byes and sharing good memories about Papa. When it was my grandma's turn, she said,

"So many people have asked me in the last few days how I'm doing… how I'm holding up after losing my husband.
I tell them that I was blessed and so very lucky to have 63 years with the same wonderful man. I have 3 grown sons who all live close to me and watch out for me. I have a granddaughter, her husband and 3 great-grandchildren who moved all the way from CA to be closer to me.

I tell them I don't have time to be sad… I'm too busy counting my blessings!"

Book Review - Flirting with Forty

I love writing book reviews on my blogs because I LOVE fiction!!

The last one was Blind Your Ponies by Stanley Gordon West... and any books by him. Wonderful writer.

Well, I started a book yesterday and finished it today...

It was called Flirting with Forty by Jane Porter.

The book was wonderful!! VERY emotional for me though. I turned 40 in January and reading the book was like exposing every raw nerve that I have and I have to admit that I cried my eyes out at times.

I think it helped me to mourn the loss of my youth and embrace the new and improved ME! To be really OK with ME!

When I turned 40, I decided that I no longer had time for cranky, negative people and I started to weed them out of my life. It was really hard to say no to people that weren't headed in the same direction as I am or that only whined and complained about their lives... I just don't have time for that anymore.

It just so happens that there is a great scene where Jackie comes to realize the very same thing and I felt so validated and like someone "had my back" with this decision!! LOL!!

Did Dr. Phil help me get a life??!!

I wrote an article that I submitted to a local Christian publication a few months ago called, "Mom! Get a Life!"

I called it that because when I got really depressed a couple years ago because my husband was working about 80-90 hours a week and I thought I was going to lose my mind being home with little kids all day all by myself in a huge new city we just moved to, everyone told me that I needed to get a life.

Well, I had no idea how to do that. But I figured it out (for me) by trial and error and so I wrote that article to share my journey to get a life!! ha!

I also share my story on YouTube in a speech I gave which shows the ridiculous trial and error... like thinking that getting on tv would make me happy...

...we were guests on Dr. Phil for my daughter's thumbsucking problem which was really cool but didn't bring the desired happiness...

I get to be home with sick kids!

One of the joys of being a work at home mom is that when my kids are sick, I get to be home with them.

When my son came into my room this morning burning up with a high fever, I just gave him some meds and told him to crawl back into bed.

I didn't have to rush around and try to rearrange my schedule and call into a boss that would probably be miffed with the fact that I'm having to miss work again.

No guilt. No stress. No problems! I love being a work at home mom!

Because my business is primarily an internet business, I just keep my ears open for any cries from my son in the next room and keep working on the computer which is my passion. I love being on the internet and working from home.

Now that my husband was able to quit his job and become a Boss Free Dad, he is able to go into the elementary school to visit our daughters' classrooms and be more connected to them.

They love having Daddy ride the bus with them in the morning and then have lunch with them. I pick him up from school and then we spend the afternoon together.

What an amazing life! It's the life I dreamed could be possible and it is!!

The other day I was chatting with one of my distributors and she was ready to burst!

She was tallying up her sales for the year and she noticed that she PROFITED over $2000 in just the month of November last year with only 5 parties and 2 small fundraisers... wow!

If she can do it, so can you because this was her first year as a distributor and she was new to the area... she didn't know a soul when she started. She also has a newborn and toddler so she is a busy new mommy!

Pre-Mother's Day is almost as big as Pre-Christmas for selling and making money with candles. Everyone has a mom or grandma or aunt or teacher or.... well you get the picture! Lots of people NEED gifts for this spring.

Candle Couple Has a Wonderful Valentine's Day!

I love Valentine's Day for retailing because there are so many guys who wait until the last minute to get their sweetie a gift and also lots of women who want to treat themselves on that day so buying a candle is a treat for them.

My husband, Collin, and I went out together this year and it was a lot of fun to do this as a couple! We went out a couple days before Valentine's Day armed with a basket of "candle sets" that I sell for $10. I put the cinnamon roll shaped candles on 4" terra cotta saucers inside an organza bag with a blank gift tag. I sold a lot of those.

I also put a soy soap with a votive in a holder in a gift bag and sold those for $10, also. Of course, jar sales were terrific with awesome scents like Sex on the Beach, Angel Wings, Forbidden Fruit, and Tuscany Nights!

We visited our regular customers at the car dealership, autobody shop, and bank. The teller at my bank was so impressed with the candles, our sales there and the money I was depositing, that she asked me how to get started! She was delightful and would make a wonderful team partner!

So in just a couple days and only a couple hours each day, we brought in $400! We would have sold more, too, if the weather would have been a little better. Some of my regular customers weren't at work on those days because of the weather. But I'll check in with them next week and they can treat themselves to a belated Valentine's gift!

Boogie Boards and Elephant Seals!

We just got home from a two week vacation to Southern California and Las Vegas. Here in Montana it gets very cold in January so we decided to take a trip to Southern California where it was a little warmer.

We love the beach so it was a wonderful trip where the kids had a great time boogie boarding in the surf at Avila Beach on the Central Coast and we also got to see the hundreds of Elephant Seals sunning themselves a little further up the coast. Amazing creatures!

This trip was a dream come true because we didn't have to plan our trip around a work schedule.

My husband was able to quit his job because my candle business income has replaced his income. We can travel anytime we want to!! He is now a Boss Free Dad!

New Years Resolution that ROCKS!!

Here is a New Year's Resolution that was posted by a team member of mine and it's just awesome. How many of us can relate to exactly what she is talking about....

I have been for most of my life a person that is burdened by
disappointments and regrets. Just this weekend I caught myself feeling those regrets...The negative self talk can really sneak up on you at times.

Have any of you actually been in the middle of some battle in your head? I often tell myself "I will never accomplish anything, I never follow through, I should have done this instead of that...I find myself nit-picking myself to death inside my head. I guess being a perfectionist can at times hold you back.

I find that I talk myself out of things because deep down there is always this fear that I will fail "again."

The ironic thing is that others that carry a more positive out look would not see these life choices as failures... Of course we all make mistakes, yet there are others that just get right back up and move on without regret...

That is my News Years Resolution....
To live a more positive life.

To live in the now not in the past.

I make a vow to stop all the worry that is worthless. In this
resolution I have already taken steps.

I have returned to the gym and have also returned to the pool. After years of not swimming laps it felt amazing to snap that swim cap on and glide through the water. It was like "Where have you been hiding, and oh, ya I remember this" The best thing for stress and for your over all health is exercise so I feel
this is the first step.

My other step is to get ORGANIZED...Don't we all just hate that word HAHA! I'm may be organized compared to some, yet when I feel "Cluttered" then I start making excuses! I need a clear and open space to work.

Last, yet not least is the most important step. To realize I'm not
Superwoman and I cannot possibly accomplish everything in one day. In that I will learn to truly enjoy my days. I will step back and allow myself to enjoy my time with my daughter and not feel "guilty" because I'm not being productive.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34.

What an amazing company this is! I truly feel blessed. I feel the genuine care and concern for us as we try to get this started.

I can't believe how much they offer to us as far as training and all the great information and opportunities to share ideas and offer support through the conference calls and Yahoo groups! I am so impressed by the mentoring going on all around.

Usually, you sign up, you're excited, and then it's
like....NOW WHAT??? It is overwhelming and you feel lost and then regret it and say things like "what did I just get myself in to?" It certainly doesn't set you up on the right foot.

It's like learning to tie your sneakers...(ok, stick with me on this one)

You get your sneakers, you're so excited because they are new. You want to tie them up so you can run in them but you don't know how, so you try to do it yourself and you can't!

You just make knots and they keep coming loose and you keep tripping on them and falling. So, you ask for help but there isn't anyone who can. So then you take those sneakers and toss 'em.

Now, you see another pair of sneakers with different types of
laces and you get them - try them on - these are great - you're excited again!

Only this time the person who gave them to you shows you how to lace them up, tie them and upkeep them so they will last a long long time. It makes sense and you learn it and are great at it! YOU CAN RUN now! Wahoo! And now, you can teach
others to tie their laces and run too!

Thanks to the great minds who set this all up! I feel confident that I can really do this. I feel like what's required of me to start in this business is all right
there and stated clearly.

And, those automated emails are great, the Yahoo group is a fantastic resource, the conference calls - wow! I look
forward to those and am actually bummed when I have a schedule conflict and can't make it to one, I don't want to miss out on good info ya know?

And of course, even though all those resources are available to
me, I will and do have questions but I know that I can always ask and someone will be there to help me.

Anyway, I said all that just to say, Thank you for being there Kari Andersen even though I know you have a
lot going on besides little ol' me here in Oregon. And thank you for always being available to help me in my next steps so I can RUN with this!

Searching Mommies

I just wanted to share a very nice note that I received from my newest team member, Katie Benson from Oregon City, OR. She was searching for a way to help out with the family finances and still be home with her babies.

Why did I choose a stay at home mom candle business?

When I was growing up, my mom was home. I always said that when I grew up I would be home, too, to raise my babies.

Well, the cost of living is so much higher now than when I was a kid.

It is VERY expensive to raise kids, have a mortgage or rent, drive a car, pay for lunches, buy Christmas presents...you name it, it's very expensive and most families need for both parents to work in order to survive.

That wasn't going to be an option for us. My husband and I decided before we had children that one of us would always be home. Wow! We had no idea how hard that was going to be!!!

So we sacrificed, penny pinched and lived within a very tight budget. But that got really old, really fast!

I loved being home with my kids but I was frustrated that they didn't get to do the things and have the things that I always dreamed they would have.

I also wanted so much more!
I wanted financial freedom!
